Below are a series of case studies that are examples of what ActionCOACH has done for clients in California and Nevada.

Coach: Bob Britz

One of my early clients was complaining about working too much among other business ailments. When this technical company owner showed me their calendar and 128 hours per week, I knew we had a major problem. Not only was this owner working IN their business as a technician, but they were not able to grow or leverage any of the resources to make the company more profitable as a result. The solution included hiring more people. But wait you say, there’s an expense to that… in this case yes and no. All the current technical staff were 1099 contractors and able to be given work and factored into the cost of the projects. We added three more staff for a total of six and reduced the owner’s time in the business from 128 hours down to 96 –still too much. As projects were quoted we increased the rates to market allowing for more profit and the ability to delegate more to the new 1099 team. After 9 months, revenues were up 110% and profits up 68%, and the owner, down to 56 hours a week, and having a life. Leveraging labor and prices are key to making the money this client needs to thrive in this economy. Now working ON their business, this owner is out drumming up key contracts and doing something they never thought possible – selling their business services rather than just grinding through the daily work.

Coach: Peter Williamson, ML

Dena Gilbert Sheldon is an Attorney in Sparks who hired a business coach to assist her in establishing clear goals that have translated into real results. She hired Peter Williamson of ActionCOACH who assisted in setting up systems and processes that helped her see the exact time she needed to do more marketing and advertising in order to obtain new customers and meet the goals that she set with her coach. With testing and measurement systems in place, Dena was able to increase her business substantially year over year. She was also able to overcome hiring and employee challenges by having a coach that helped assist with problem solving language and personnel management strategies that set employee accountability standards to assure that their goals are being met. A business coach holds their clients accountable too. Dena states, “It’s amazing how much you can really accomplish on your goals when you have someone making you accountable for achieving them. I am thankful for the support.”

PK Electrical, Inc. is the regional leader in innovative electrical engineering and design. In business since 1996, they have continued to grow in company size, projects, client base and geographic territory. Owners Karen Purcell and Alan Wiskus have seen great benefits from utilizing the expertise of a Business Coach. Their challenge was growing and effectively managing their business. What they needed was an organized and structured way to think about operating their business. By working with an experienced business coach, they were coached in thinking about their business in another way. They looked at new processes and put new systems in place that helped to organize and structure the business. For example, they put together workshops with the staff that really got the staff engaged in working ON the business not just working FOR the business. The workshops were able to successfully move the employees from a reactive approach to more of a proactive approach. They were able to put new systems in place for projecting revenue. Karen states, “ActionCOACH business coaching has provided a combination of tools and accountabilities that have helped us manage growth and opened our eyes up to bigger opportunities.” Their company continues to grow by 25% year over year, and the company now has new confidence and great new ideas for growth. Small business owners like Karen and Alan start their own businesses because they like what they do and are very successful at it. Success leads to growth which requires owners to perform roles beyond what they are use to. Business coaching has helped us to change our roles and learn ways to manage our business through other’s experienced success rather than by trial and error.

Tonya McDowell, Owner, Rivendel Independent Living works with Jeremy Fairbanks, an Executive Business Coach with ActionCOACH. Tonya is a business owner who believes that all business owners have dreams, aspirations, visions, hopes and goals, but recognizes that it can be so overwhelming that you do not know which way to go or what to do. Like many others, Tonya had the passion to start a business, and believed strongly in the benefits of that business, but wasn’t sure how to do it. Once Tonya experienced a business coach first hand, she had wondered why she hadn’t gotten one 10 years earlier. Tonya states, “This has been the best investment I have ever made in my business.” She adds, “There are no ways or words to express the relief, hope and motivation to continue the course now that I have a business coach. With my business, I was in a state of hopelessness, doubt, completely overwhelmed and at the point of giving up. This is not the place to be. You should never wait until you get to this point. Planned prevention has great value. As I have participated in the process, I have begun to see it all come together in a manner that is inspiring, with proven results. It brings life back to your business from a different angle. It is very empowering when you have someone who listens, has the second eye and voice on the outside...a new perspective, suggestion, clear guidance and focus on what is important.”
