Keys For a Winning Team

Just like a football team needs a coach, so does your business team!

Do you have that sinking feeling that your employees hate you? Maybe you selected the wrong people to build your business. Or maybe, just maybe you need to look at the person leading them and see if you need to make some adjustments yourself.

As Brad Sugars, CEO and founder of ActionCOACH points out, the word team is often made into the acronym T.E.A.M. standing for Together Everyone Achieves More The key word in that phrase is ACHIEVE. Brad points out that team building is not about becoming buddies, partying together, and building friendships. And you might rightly agree. But maybe the employees you’ve hired have a different idea of what it means to be a player on your team. It’s time to educate them.

Team Building is about Building a Better Business

As a business owner, that requires developing highly effective leadership skills. To be a great leader, one must be an effective communicator. Otherwise, as Brad’s dad so pointedly pointed out to him, “You Get the People you Deserve.” Ouch.

So, for starters, take a good look at the people you hired. Are they there to help build a better business? If not, get rid of them. And while you’re assessing that, take a good look at yourself. By developing effective communication skills, you’ll attract people to you who are there to build a better business. They understand the concept that by helping you, they are ultimately helping themselves. And lastly, put a great management system in place so that they have a solid plan to follow.
