Bay Area Artist Views Night Life as an Open Canvas 

SAN JOSE, CA, May 21, 2009 – By traditional standards, painting is an art that takes years to master and, in some cases, just as long to perfect in a single piece. One artist plans on creating that perfect piece over a single evening, and in a nightclub nonetheless.   Artist Henry Ascencio has never been one for tradition.

His art is tough to classify by classical standards as it blends classical figurative painting with Ascencio’s own unique style. With this unique experience in mind, Ascencio has begun the “live painting” experience. Ascencio has partnered with Glas Kat Nightclub and Café Cocomo to add a one of a kind artistic dynamic to the nightclub experience.

Instead of the traditional means of showcasing one’s art, Ascencio will actually paint a partially nude model over the course of a single evening and then sell the piece upon closing time. “As far as exposure was concerned, I was exhibiting with some of the high-end local galleries, but developed the plan to begin panting live at night clubs in an attempt to reach clients I would have been incapable of reaching before." 

Ascencio’s career to date has been purely instinctual. Ascencio sought out a formal adviser to help drive his career forward. That advisor was found in Juliette Donohue, a California Representative of the ActionCOACH organization. ActionCOACH provides business and executive coaching to their clients in a manner that is as unique as Henry Ascencio. Together, the two collaborated to bring the nightclub partnerships to life.   “As an artist, I do not have a formal business education. My coach continues to help me to become more confident and effective as a businessperson. I developed a plan to paint live at nightclubs, which my coach ultimately helped me implement."

Ascencio graduated with honors from the San Francisco Art Academy in 1998 and was chosen as a finalist in an Artist's Magazine competition for portraiture. His “live paintings” have sold for between twenty and thirty thousand dollars per painting.  A Los Angeles native, Ascencio can be found in his San Jose based studio.
